The name might scare you, but the views are absolutely unbelievable. If you've never been to Blood Mountain, Georgia, it's high time you visit. As the highest peak in the Georgia section of the Appalachian Trail, Blood Mountain boasts some of the most unreal views around---and with good reason. It's also the sixth tallest mountain in the entire state.
If you're interested in taking a quick jaunt, Blood Mountain is located on the border of Lumpkin County with Union County and is within the boundaries of the Chattahoochee National Forest and the Blood Mountain Wilderness. This mountain is not only epic for hiking, trail walking and waterfall photo ops, but it also has a famous stone shelter on top, which was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) in 1934. The Blood Mountain Shelter is a two-room stone shelter that is the perfect spot for trail hikers to sit and rest their bones.
If you are bold enough to make it all the way up, make sure to check out Picnic Rock, which is a famous landmark at the very tippy top. Otherwise, if you aren't feeling so adventurous, then have a look at why Blood Mountain will absolutely drop your jaw:
The Trails range in length and difficulty, but still provide a superb workout no matter which path you choose.
Visiting during certain times of the year, brings different experiences along the way.
Although cold, visiting Blood Mountain during the winter brings a frosted bliss.
And then you have the waterfalls...
There are three falls in total, with the first two connected by cascading rapids.
The hiker's shelter at the top of the mountain is maintained by the Georgia Appalachian Trail Club.
But then, you have the views:
If you're lucky enough to climb to the top, the views are truly spectacular.
Whether it's for sunset or sunrise, it's a magical place to be for both.
Or maybe you hike midday, when the top of the mountain still is spectacular:
View all the flora and fauna that you pass on the way up.
