Summer in Georgia can get pretty hot. The high temperatures and, worst of all, the high humidity, can be a real drag. It's great to get outside and enjoy all our gorgeous natural surroundings, but you've got to find a way to cool off. One great way is to dip into one of the many swimming holes in Georgia. Tucked away in Hiawassee is High Shoals Falls, a small waterfall-fed swimming hole that looks like something straight out of a fairy tale. Surrounded by lush greenery and beautiful Northeast Georgia forests, this looks like a magical getaway that's the absolute perfect outing for summer.
You'll actually find two beautiful waterfalls not far from one another. High Shoals Fall Trail will lead you to both its namesake cascade and the smaller Blue Holes Falls.
The entire hike is only a little over two miles round trip. You'll head through a verdant forest with lots of lush greenery.
The sound of rushing water is audible through most of the trail, which certainly adds to the storybook quality.
You'll definitely want to watch your step on this trail, especially when you approach the falls. The rocks can get very slippery, so always be aware of your surroundings and don't act recklessly.
This is such an amazingly beautiful trail in a particularly gorgeous region of Georgia.
Seriously, does anything beat the joy of cooling off in a waterfall-fed pool after a magical hike through the woods?
Please note: this is not to be confused with the also-beautiful High Shoals Falls in Dallas, Georgia. That is a different waterfall entirely.
