No matter how amazing of a life you lead, it's likely that you've fantasized about escaping into seclusion at some point. We all get irritated by the little mundane bothers of everyday life at times, and the idea of being the only one out in a park or on a trail can sound pretty appealing when your boss is getting on your last nerve. Luckily, we have no shortage of beautiful state parks in Georgia, each of which offers up amazing scenery that will let you feel like you're escaping your worries for just a bit. One of the most interesting state parks here is Fort Mountain State Park. It's home to a mysterious wall that was thought to be built by indigenous tribes around AD 500. It's also home to several great trails, one of which is the Gahuti Mountain Trail. It's a lot less popular than many other trails here, so you may find that you're all to yourself on this magical hike.
The Gahuti Inner Loop takes you to a few of the park's most noteworthy sites. It stretches out for nearly six miles and is considered moderately to hard difficulty - there's quite the elevation gain.
It's a loop trail that will provide you with some pretty spectacular views at any time of year.
At the top of Fort Mountain, you'll find the remains of an 800-foot long wall. Archaeologists aren't really sure what it was originally used for.
The trail can get a little rocky and there are plenty of tree roots in the wooded areas, so make sure to watch your step.
People will occasionally gather in the overlook areas, but overall, you probably won't pass a ton of hikers on this trail due to its length.
This is a magnificent trail at any time of year and definitely worth exploring!
