When many Floridians think about the most beautiful national preserve, they might immediately think about the Everglades. However, we have an underrated gem that deserves so much more recognition than it receives. The Timucuan Ecological and Historic Preserve is over 46,000 acres of natural beauty that, visiting, you might just see why it can be classified as the most beautiful historic preserve in Florida, if not America.
The Timucuan Ecological and Historic Preserve is a United States National Preserve located in Jacksonville, comprised of over 46,000 acres of land.
The land within this preserve includes various waterways, vast coastal wetlands, hardwood hammocks, salt marshes, and unspoiled areas along the Atlantic Coast.
But what really makes this area shine outside of the natural elements, is the history behind it. With over 6,000 years of human history documented within, you’ll be able to take a trip through time to see how special this land once was.
Also included in a visit to Timucuan Preserve are both Fort Caroline and Kingsley Plantation, both offering educational opportunities for guests to learn all about the history within.
Explore the history behind the very first French colony in what we now know to be the United States, as well as the story of enslavement and freedom at the Kingsley Plantation. In addition, guests can learn all about the Timucua people, for whom this stunning preserve is named.
But really just enjoying the natural aspect of the preserve, watching where human history and Mother Earth intersect is truly a thing of beauty.
Come enjoy a trip back in time, plus a natural preserve that will remind you of all culture and beauty that Florida has to offer.
