Crystal River Archaeological State Park is one of the most unique places in all of Florida.
For all those history buffs out there looking for a bit of archaeological wonderment, this is the place to be.
Not only is Crystal River Archaeological State Park a true gem in terms of natural, interpretive trails winding throughout the lush landscape…
…but it also brings visitors to a ceremonial mound complex built more than 2,500 years ago!
Believe it or not, that isn’t even the coolest part about Crystal River Archaeological State Park though.
The park is home to the only petroglyph in the entire state. How neat is that?!
Hiking through Crystal River Archaeological State Park allows visitors the chance to explore the grounds where an ancient civilization came to live dating back nearly 10,000 years ago.
Remnants of this civilization were found along the Crystal River, such as the temples in which they worshipped, where they traded with other tribes, and how they buried their dead.
It is said that people traveled great distances to visit the burial mounds of this land, which served as a ceremonial site for more than 1,600 years.
Guests can climb the staircase to the top of the highest mound for unobstructed views of the Crystal River.
And see for themselves why this archaeological site in Florida is so special to the state’s history.
The grounds are open from 8 a.m. until sunset every day, and the museum is open from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
