Delaware is full of ponds, lakes and rivers, making it easy to find a spot to drop a kayak or relax by the water on a hot summer's day. One pond in particular is picture perfect for those warm days where you want to enjoy the summer sun, but still have an option to cool yourself off.
Killens Pond State Park is located in Felton, Kent County.
You can find the park at 5025 Killens Pond Road
Felton, DE 19943
It features miles of walking trails through woodlands and forest, crossing creeks along the way.
The Pondside trail is a 2.5 mile loop that will take you around the pond, bringing you to fishing spots and great birding locations. Keep an eye out for all of the wildlife you'll spot!
The pond is perfect for first time paddlers. You can rent kayaks, canoes, and more from the park office.
The gentle water here is great for getting your sea legs. Look for lily pads, turtles, and other wildlife in and around the 66 acre pond. You can also paddle underneath the bridge and up the Murderkill River.
Pedal boats are great for visitors who would rather not paddle their way across the pond.
You can rent them for as little as $6 for half an hour, up to a daily rate of $50.
Of course, it's hard to top a classic canoe! Rent whichever your group likes best.
Kayaks and canoes run from hourly rates between $8-10, up to a daily rate of $55.
After your time on the water, set up a great picnic lunch right alongside the pond.
There are plenty of shady spots to set up your picnic. The campground at Killens Pond makes it easy to turn your day trip into an overnight, too! Rent a cabin or tent spot, or park your RV here.
If it's too hot to stay out on the pond long, you can always visit the water park!
Online ticketing is new this year, so you can be sure you'll get in before the park is at capacity. Get more information at the Killens Pond website.
Beyond water activities, the Killens Pond Nature Center is one of the coolest in the state.
Get up close and personal with snakes, frogs and more critters that make Kent County their home.
All summer long, join Killens Pond in celebrating this season with festivals, events, live music and more.
