If you're looking for a great place to spend the day, plan a trip to Killens Pond State Park in Felton, Delaware! This beautiful natural oasis is located in Kent County, just south of Dover, which makes it easy to access from pretty much anywhere in the state. Here, you'll find boat rentals, a nature center, hiking and biking trails, and even a water park!
The beautiful pond itself is the centerpiece of the park, and the trails that wind around it also show off beautiful views of the Murderkill River.
While the name of the river may be a little unsettling, don't fret! It was originally the "moeder killer," which means "Mother River" in Dutch.
You can rent a boat if you want to spend the day on the water!
Whether you're looking to kayak, canoe, or pedal a paddle boat, Killens Pond is happy to rent you all the gear that you need.
There are miles of trails here that are perfect for cycling, jogging, hiking, or walking. Keep an eye out for turtles, snakes, and shorebirds that call this little slice of paradise their home.
The views from around the lake are breathtaking! You'll want to plan a picnic to enjoy alongside the water.
In the summertime, there's no better way to cool off than by spending the day at the Killens Pond Waterpark. It has slides, a splash pad, and huge lounge pool!
Don't forget to make time to stop by the Nature Center! Here, you'll learn all about the ecosystem that is supported by the pond and river.
Kids and adults alike will enjoy learning all about Delaware's wildlife and native plants.
If you don't want your stay to end, you can camp here, too.
