This spring weather is making me want to get out and explore all that Delaware has to offer - and did you know that the first week of May is National Wildflower Week? What better way to celebrate our state's beautiful spring by visiting the vast collection of Delaware wildflowers at the impressive, stunning, Mt. Cuba Center in Hockessin? Stop and smell the flowers, lay out a picnic blanket, and enjoy your time in the most relaxing place in Delaware.
Mt Cuba opened up the season in April with their wildflower celebration!
From now until November, the gardens are open to the public to explore.
Every plant on this beautiful estate is native to Delaware.
You're free to walk the gardens by yourself (or with your own group), but if you've never been here, I'd recommend joining a Garden Highlight tour. They run for about 45 minutes and start at 11 AM or 2 PM. You'll learn all there is to know about the center and its mission, and the tour only adds $2 to your ticket price.
If you're as mesmerized by these beautiful Delaware wildflowers as I am, you'll want to join a Garden Enthusiast Experience tour, too.
Join Mt. Cuba Center at 10 AM on the second Saturday of each month for an unforgettable learning experience. This in-depth tour of the gardens is led by an expert, and you'll learn about Delaware wildflowers and native plans, as well as pick up some sustainable garden tips for your own yard. You'll take what you've learned home with you - as well as a native plant from Mt. Cuba! Each tour is two hours long, and tickets include admission. You can buy tickets online for $15, or by phone at 302.239.4244
If you're looking for some time to yourself, strolling the gardens in solitude is just about the most serene experience you can have in Delaware.
Each beautiful bloom is cared for by the Mt. Cuba Center, and you can tell they take the time to maintain the grounds meticulously.
The spring blossoms right now include Jacob's Ladder, Redbud, Swamp Pink, Virginia Bluebells, Pink Columbine, and more.
Learn about the in-season wildflowers at the center, and see how many you can spot as you walk through the paths throughout Mt. Cuba.
Be sure to pack yourself a picnic lunch to enjoy on the open meadows.
This beautiful Delaware wildflower trail will take your breath away, and you'll never want to leave. Luckily, you can picnic at Mt. Cuba, and spend the whole day relaxing out among the native plants.
Mt Cuba is an affordable day trip that your entire family will enjoy, or it's the perfect place to spend some time on your own and meditate or relax. These beautiful gardens have been inspiring artists and thinkers for decades. Adult admission is just $10, and children's tickets from ages 6-17 are $5. Children under 5 are welcomed in for free.
