Tacos are kind of a big deal, no matter where you're from. The hashtag #tacotuesday has taken on a life of its own, and local taco joints are the best places to celebrate. Delaware is lucky enough to have some great restaurants that serve up unbelievable tacos, and on the Delaware Taco Trail you can try them all. Bring a friend (if you feel like sharing!) and try everything from Linguas in Wilmington, to Tripas in Dover, and of course, Fish Tacos at the beach. Enjoy!
Follow THIS MAP to taco temptation.
1. Mexican Table, Hockessin
Start off in Hockessin at Mexican Table, where your Delaware Taco Trail will begin with a bang. You can order your usual favorite taco, but I'd recommend reading the menu a little more thoroughly. Have you ever had a duck carnitas taco? Well, now's your change. Their alambre tacos are unbeatable, too.
7288 Lancaster Pike Hockessin, DE 19707
2. El Tapatio, Wilmington
There's a reason that your favorite taco spot from your childhood is still standing, and crowded! El Tapatio knows how to make tacos right. They've been here for decades, and the party atmosphere is a huge draw for people looking to get out and celebrate the end of their week.
1700 Philadelphia Pike, Wilmington, DE 19809
3. El Pique, Wilmington
El Pique is a small, almost hidden taco joint off of Route 100 in Wilmington. They serve up incredible, authentic tacos. Their chicken tacos are my favorite, but I've never eaten anything here that's disappointed me. There's no way any Taco Road Trip would skip El Pique! 805 North Dupont Road, Wilmington, Delaware
4. Rivera Taco Express II, Bear
Taco Trucks in the city don't hold a candle to Rivera Taco Express in Bear! This tiny, tiny taco truck is sort of hidden in a parking lot, and like any good hole in the wall, it serves up unforgettable food. This is a great spot for lunch on the go - especially if you're on the road to complete the rest of this Delaware Taco Trail.
1969 Pulaski Hwy Bear, DE 19702
5. El Nopal, Dover
El Nopal is always crowded, so be prepared to wait for a seat if you show up on a Friday night. The wait is always worth it, because El Nopal serves up some of the best tacos of every type. Any Delaware Taco Trail would be incomplete without a stop here - it's almost a landmark at this point!627 W Division St, Dover, DE 19904
6. La Placita, Laurel
Please note, La Placita has permanently closed.
Tacos La Placita, in Laurel, can be tough to find. Once you track it down, though, you'll return again and again. Their fresh tacos and quality ingredients make this one of my favorite places to stop when I'm down in this part of the state.
11290 Trussum Pond Rd Laurel, DE 19956
7. Restaurante Mi Laurita, Georgetown
Mi Laurita wins as the Queen of Linguas and Tripas! If you've never had Tacos de Linguas or Tacos Tripas, you've got to make your way down here. They're perfectly seasoned, perfectly topped, and absolutely delicious.
110 N Race St Ste 106, Georgetown, DE 19947
8. Papa Grande, Rehoboth Beach
Please note, Papa Grande has permanently closed.
If it's fish tacos that you're after, look no further than Papa Grande's Coastal Taqueria. Their buttermilk-fried version is unbelievable! They also serve up some amazing margaritas, so celebrate your days off in style. 210 2nd St Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971
I can't get enough of Delaware's great food - if you feel the same, maybe finish your taco-seeking weekend with a Delaware Ice Cream Trail for dessert.
