There's something so captivating about great drone footage. We recently shared incredible aerial footage of Bancroft Mills, taken by a drone flown through the plant right after it burned nearly to the ground for a second time. That footage was dark and grim, and painted a picture of a decaying Delaware industry.
While I find abandoned places absolutely fascinating, I can appreciate that sometimes, a peaceful tune and some stunning scenery are the way to go. And while the sad video of smoldering Bancroft Mills told one part of the state's story, the booming beach towns and incredible, stunning scenery featured in the following drone videos show the other side of the First State.
Blackbird State Forest is one of Delaware’s greatest gems. This is Delaware’s northernmost state forest and it is home to multiple trails, primitive campsites, and more. It’s a place where you can escape the crowds, disconnect, and enjoy a little solitude in nature. In fact, one of the best places for a little time outdoors and to yourself is on the Tybout Tract Trail in Blackbird State Forest. It’s an easy and short trail and practically perfect. Plus, you may not see another soul on your journey.

The Tybout Tract Trail in Delaware is a trail you’ll immediately love. You’ll want to share its many features with friends and family but at the same time, you’ll want to keep this area all to yourself.
Accessing the trail is quite easy. You’ll find the parking lot right off Blackbird Forest Road near the Blackbird State Forest Headquarters.
Tybout Tract Trail is the perfect family adventure. This is a loop trail that is approximately two miles long. It is also quite easy and flat. Your calves won’t receive too much of a workout on this hike.
And while this is an ideal family-friendly hike in Delaware, this trail is also perfect for a solo adventure. This is a lesser-known hiking trail and typically, you won’t see too many hikers as you explore. It is a great place to enjoy both the sounds and sights of nature.
This trail is easy to follow — just make sure to watch for sticks and rocks that may lie on your path. And always take the time to stare at the tall trees towering above you and some of the vegetation and wildflowers growing right next to the trail.
And if you want to spend even more time in this mesmerizing area, bring a picnic lunch as you’ll find tables near the entrance and throughout the trail.
Any time of the year is quite beautiful on the Tybout Tract Trail. In the summer, the trees are lush and green, making it easy to disconnect and step away from the cares of the world. I also love the autumn months when the fall foliage is at its peak and transforms this area. However, be aware that parts of this trail may be subject to a seasonal closure due to deer hunting. You can learn more on the Delaware Department of Agriculture website.

This year, the fall foliage in Delaware will reach its peak by the beginning of October. Leaves will begin to change color around early-to-mid September. One of the best weekends for getting out and going on a Delaware fall foliage road trip would be the last weekend of September. Where should you head? Well, there are a few places we'd recommend...
Trap Pond State Park isn't just known for its cypress swamp; it's also a wonderful place to view the fall foliage. You can take the 4.6-mile Bob Trail through the park and enjoy peaceful views of fiery leaves reflected in the water of the pond.
Winterthur Museum, Garden, & Library is a must-see in any season. Its 60-acre garden is brimming with hues of red, orange, and yellow once fall rolls around, and there's nothing better for getting in the autumn spirit than taking a stroll around the grounds.
If you're not up for a stroll, what about a train ride? Wilmington & Western Railroad offers a Fall Leaf Special every year, where you can admire Delaware's fall colors from the comfort of your seat. You can even enjoy a half-hour layover at the Mt. Cuba Picnic Grove.
Speaking of Mt. Cuba Center, this is another great place to visit to see fall colors in Delaware. Meander through the gardens and trails (open Wednesday through Sunday) and make sure to take plenty of pictures.
Hagley is a can't-miss, as an indoor-outdoor museum with the Brandywine River running through the grounds. Walk along the river and admire the foliage as you go. There are often events going on at Hagley for adults and children alike, so be sure to check the Hagley event calendar.
Any of Delaware's state parks would make for a beautiful fall visit, but not all of them have the amount and diversity of trails you'll find at White Clay Creek State Park. Over 37 miles of trails, ranging from easy to moderate, with some being paved, are available for hikers and bikers to enjoy. White Clay Creek winds through the park, making it even more picturesque. Take the Pomeroy Rail-Trail, which runs right alongside the creek, for some truly lovely scenery.
