Did you know that there's an enormous outdoor rock climbing wall right in Wilmington? Head to the city's best and biggest park to discover an outdoor oasis that's often completely overlooked.
Alapocas Run State Park in Wilmington offers Delaware's first and only outdoor rock climbing wall.
With a handful of routes and a well-maintained top rope system, you'll feel like you've been whisked away to the mountains as soon as you clip in!
During spring and summer, the park frequently runs Introduction to Rock Climbing programs, along with other public activities designed to help get you safely up the wall.
If you're an experienced climber, you can get a permit and spend the day climbing the park's top ropes with your friends.
Alapocas Run is a carry in, carry out park, and the wall already has all the hardware you need. Any anchors or hardware not set by the park is prohibited, so stick to the laid-out routes.
Every summer, Delaware State Parks hosts a rock climbing summer camp for children and teenagers. It's the perfect camp for any adventurous or outdoorsy kid.
Kids will get more than rock climbing experience at the camp! Learning to climb helps boost confidence and teach kids responsibility and respect for nature.
