Bladensburg Waterfront Park located on the scenic Anacostia River. Most people flock to the Potomac in the summer so Bladensburg Park is a perfect way to enjoy time on the water without the crowds.

5. Constitution Gardens

Most people don’t even realize Constitution Gardens exist even though they’ve probably strolled by it many times. This gorgeous place is a peaceful 38 acre park just across from the National Mall.

6. The Franciscan Monastery

Located in Brookland, the Franciscan Monastery has a beautiful garden out back. There are more than 1,000 roses and other gorgeous flowers. The peacefulness of the entire grounds creates a serene experience.

7. Oak Hill Cemetery

Oak Hill may be a cemetery but it’s still a tranquil place. The cemetery was founded in 1848 and there is a gorgeous chapel on the grounds that but by famous architect James Renwick, who also designed the Smithsonian Castle.

8. Anacostia River

Why wait on the shores when you can escape it all in the middle of the river? The Anacostia is often much less crowded than the Potomac and you can rent kayaks and canoes or paddle boards.

Crispus Attucks is a local favorite. This unique space is located in Bloomingdale is tucked away and offers plenty of gorgeous green space and quiet time for relaxation.

10. Riverbend Park

Riverbend Park is technically in Virginia and is a remote park with over 400 acres of forest, meadows, and hiking trails. You can enjoy gorgeous views, wildflowers, and birds.
