Looking for a historic site in Connecticut that's truly unique? Then you'll definitely want to check this place out! If nature is art, then doesn't it make sense for the exploration of Connecticut's natural beauty to combine with a collection of impressionist painters? Don't answer that. This park will do it for you!
Located in Wilton, this is the only Connecticut site in the National Park Service devoted to the visual arts. With so many scenic paths, this place is about recreating them just as much as it's about experiencing them.
The 60 acres this site is made of were originally purchased for ten dollars and a painting. Hard to imagine anyone would be willing to part with this hilly countryside, but I'm glad they did, because it became a public site for all to enjoy.
Stay close to the farm or adventure out to the on-site hiking trail. There are scenes you don't want to miss in every direction, so if you have a love for photography I would highly recommend bringing a camera.
This place is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
That's because the farm used to be the home of several impressionist painters. The site is named for J. Alden Weir, but other notable artists such as John Singer Sargent and John Twachtman have stayed here too.

The garden and buildings have inspired beautiful works of art.

Why We Love It: It's taken several trips for me to figure out my perfect "weekender bag that's TSA approved," but I've found my perfect carry on with the TOBIQ Colorado 30L. An Instagram ad caught my eye during a late-night scroll session and I was intrigued by the colorful compartments and versatility of the bag, which can be carried as a duffle or as a backpack (I prefer the backpack for even weight distribution and airport navigation.) Why I Love It: Fact: Airplanes are notoriously dry, dry, dry. No matter how much water I drink both before and during the flight, I always find myself in a hydration deficit for days. I'm definitely an animal lover, and I know I'm not alone. Many of us have pets and enjoy checking out zoos and farms in Connecticut, especially if you've got younger kids that enjoy seeing critters.
