There are some impressive waterfalls spread throughout Connecticut and they are popular places to go hiking, picnicking, or just take fabulous photos. Nestled away on the western border of our state, there is a park with an incredible waterfall staircase hike. Climb the stairs to be rewarded with amazing views at this scenic spot.

Kent Falls State Park is found in the town of Kent. The 295-acre park is home to a stunning waterfall that cascades along a 250-foot drop before meeting the Housatonic River.

Upon entering the park, you will pass through a covered bridge that is an authentic reproduction of earlier times.

The pathway to the base of the falls is completely paved making it accessible for wheelchairs and strollers.

The pool at the bottom of the falls is lined by a stone terrace that is a wonderful spot to sit and enjoy the mist on your face.

If you choose to travel onward there is a scenic waterfall staircase hike that will take you to the top.

The hike is rather steep, but it's only 1/4 of a mile long and the views are worth it.

You'll find observation platforms along the way where you can take in the stunning falls from different viewpoints.

Over time the rushing water has worn down the limestone into interesting shapes and potholes.

The water flow changes throughout the year. In the springtime, you will see the heaviest cascades when the winter snow is melting, but the falls are also dramatic after rainstorms. During the dry season, the water slows down to a trickle.

Every vista is unique, so don't be afraid to stop often during your hike.

The top of the falls has a long narrow drop where the sound of rushing water is completely relaxing.

The climb down will be much easier than going up.

A trip to Kent Falls is a rewarding way to enjoy Connecticut's outdoors. There is a reason why this astounding waterfall is one of the state's most photographed places.
