Connecticut has a tendency to get a bad rap as a boring state. But anyone who lives here knows that couldn't be further from the truth! The Constitution State is an incredible place with all kinds of natural wonders. We're blessed with 139 state parks, not to mention numerous municipal parks and gardens. You could explore a different trail every week and still not run out of places to hike in Connecticut. One trail in particular that's a great adventure is the Wadsworth Falls Trail in Wadsworth Falls State Park.
This hike boasts not one, but two waterfalls! Little Falls is, as the name implies, considerably smaller.
The woods here are gorgeous. The 285-acre park is home to lots of wildlife, so keep your eyes peeled. Birdwatchers will be in heaven!
Make sure to follow the signs for the trails; there are several side paths and you don't want to get lost.
Big Falls, on the Coginchaug River, is a stunning 30-foot cascade that's 52 feet wide.
The path can sometimes get a little wet, so make sure to wear appropriate footwear. If the weather's on the warm side, bring bug spray, as this is prime mosquito country.
The beauty and majesty of a natural waterfall is something you just don't see every day.
This is a fairly simple trail, and depending on which routes you take, you can make the hike longer or shorter if you desire. It's a great trek for kids, beginning hikers, and dogs.
Please note that swimming and picnicking are prohibited in this area of the park.
