As the leaves start to radiate their autumn colors, there's no doubt you'll want to get outside and soak in the scenery. Take a quick break from your everyday activities and embark on this short fall hike to celebrate the season. From beginning to end, this trail is full of everything that makes a hike magical. Gather up the whole family, this hike in Connecticut is not only under two miles but it's easy too!
Southford Falls State Park covers 126 acres in the towns of Oxford and Southbury. Bring your camera for this journey, there are photo ops right and left along the trail starting with the quaint covered bridge.
Spanning Eight Mile Brook, the autumn light streaming into the covered bridge is nothing short of enchanting. Peer over the edge of the bridge to watch the tumbling water below.
The Red Loop Trail wanders along the edge of the water for awhile where the fall foliage reflects beautifully. This 1.7-mile trail has abundant scenery along the way.
Take your time traveling through the woods. The hot and sticky weather of summer is long gone and this shaded path is cool and refreshing.
This trail is easy for individuals of all abilities to navigate. From twisted trees to water features, there are plenty of interesting sights to keep the kids entertained.
Take a small detour off the Red Loop at the southernmost part of the trail. A quick offshoot takes you to a 25-foot metal observation tower. Climb to the top and peek at the leaves from up high.
The crown jewel of this short fall hike is Southford Falls. The cascades have an overall drop of 50 feet and just begged to be photographed.
