If you love exploring Connecticut's wild side, or just can't get enough of hiking, Ragged Mountain Memorial Preserve is the escape you've been looking for. This densely forested area, complete with epic panoramic views, is almost completely untouched. The only exception is the network of trails that run through it which is why you're going to love spending an afternoon here. Pack your lunch and enjoy a sandwich with an unforgettable view. But don't just take my word for it. See for yourself:
As you can see, Ragged Mountain Memorial Preserve has a great set of trails and is dedicated to keeping natural places alive. Take the loop trail for a low traffic hike that isn't too difficult.
At 5.5 miles it's not too straining and the well worn trail makes for an easy to follow path. Because it's wide, it also works for mountain biking adventures. But it gets better.
Since all the trails overlap you can be a real outdoor explorer. Feel free to take the road less traveled as you can hop on and off the trail to add some length.
Since Ragged Mountain is a traprock ridge you may see some folks scaling its side. So if you're a rock climber this is a great place to try out. But the real reason people love this hike is for the views.
It's nice to walk among the trees, but it's even better to see the forest view from the top. This seemingly endless "edge of the world" view is definitely worth the hike. And it's not even the end of it.
Gorgeous sights are waiting for you in every direction. You may get the feeling that you're not in Connecticut anymore, but rest assured that this incredible trail is 100% Yankee territory. Add it to your summer bucket list immediately.
Ragged Mountain Memorial Preserve is located at 240 Kensington Road, Berlin, CT 06037. For A slightly more adventurous hike check out this Haunted Trail.
