Ever find yourself daydreaming about getting away for a bit? Life can get overwhelming - between work, family responsibilities, and everyday annoyances like traffic, it's only natural that we feel the need to relax on occasion. Luckily, there are plenty of peaceful places in Connecticut where you can get out and disconnect for a bit. There's no better place for stretching your legs than in the tranquility of nature. We're among the most densely-populated of states, but we also have an unusual percentage of land that has been designated as state parks and forests, which means you won't have any trouble finding serene natural beauty. One place that offers just that is Nassahegon State Forest in Burlington, CT. Check it out:
Burlington is a small town of around 9,000 people. It's located in Hartford County, about half an hour west of the state capital.
It's here that you'll find Nassahegon State Forest. This massive preserve spans over 1,200 acres.
There are miles of trails criss-crossing the forest, making for a great opportunity to get out and explore.
The trails are part of the state's Blue-Blazed network, which altogether comprises hundreds of miles of hiking all over the state.
The trails here are good mix of easy to difficult, with options for everything from short 0.9-mile jaunts to lengthier excursions that will take several hours.
The landscape here is quite varied, with some steeper sections and plenty of rock formations that this part of the state is known for.
You'll even find several mountain biking trails here if you prefer to explore on wheels.
Many of the hikes here aren't too far from the city, but the peaceful surroundings will let you feel a sense of calm as you forget all your worries.
This is one of the best state forests in Connecticut and a great place for a stroll at any time of year.
