Connecticut is home to many lakes and rivers that create some beautiful scenery across the state. There are also a fair number of waterfalls in our tiny state. Some are more well-known than others, but did you realize that there are actually ten of these beauties to be explored in the not-so-rural county of New Haven? Almost unbelievable, but it's true! Let's take a look at these New Haven County waterfalls that you will definitely want to visit.
1. Southford Falls, Oxford

2. Spruce Brook Falls, Beacon Falls

3. Roaring Brook Falls, Cheshire
Particularly spectacular after heavy rain, Roaring Brook Falls is the highest single-drop waterfall in the entire state. It can be seen in its natural beauty on the land and trails owned by Cheshire Land Trust. To learn more, read our featured article about Roaring Brook Falls.
4. Wintergreen Falls, Hamden
Wintergreen Falls are part of West Rock Ridge State Park. The lake trail is a 1.6-mile loop that offers beautiful views of the lake and the falls.
5. Spruce Glen Falls, Wallingford
Spruce Glen Falls are on land owned by the Wallingford Land Trust and accessible to the public. Although the waterfall is small, its free fall over the edge of the rock is mesmerizing.
6. Cedar Mill Brook Falls, Oxford
Cedar Mill Brook Falls release into Lake Zoar at Jackson Cove. The cove is a great place to spend the afternoon exploring either on shore or in the woods.
7. Sperry Falls, Woodbridge
Divided by a large boulder, Sperry Falls splits in two before releasing into a deep pool. The pool is edged by cliffs. This gorgeous waterfall can be found in Sperry Falls Park in Woodbridge.
8. Stair Brook Falls, North Branford
Stair Brook Falls are the 8th highest falls in Connecticut. The falls parallel the Mattabesett trail along Totoket Mountain in North Branford.
9 & 10. Gorge Cascade Falls & Mount Carmel Spring Falls, Hamden
These two New Haven County waterfalls can be found at Sleeping Giant State Park. While the tower at this park in Hamden seems to be the main attraction, you might want to venture off the beaten path to take in these water features. Mount Carmel Springs Falls is the 2nd tallest single-drop falls in the state. Gorge Cascade Falls can dry up to a mere trickle during the summer but is splendid during the rainy season.
