There's no shortage of beautiful places in Connecticut. And if you're looking for a wonderful vantage point to observe some of these beautiful places, what better one than up on a lookout tower? We have several great overlooks in Connecticut, and one of our favorites is nestled in the Shenipsit State Forest. There, you'll find the Soapstone Lookout. You can reach this lookout tower with a loop trail of moderate difficulty. The scenery is stunning, no matter what time of year it is. This is one of the best views in Connecticut!
The loop trail to the Soapstone Lookout is about 3 miles in length. There is around 500 feet of elevation gain, so it's considered moderately difficult.
The trail itself is quite beautiful. The forest contains miles of trails and so you have several options to choose from, including a gravel path or the more difficult terrain of a trail.
Once you reach the lookout tower, you've hit the jackpot.
The tower was closed for several years due to safety concerns, but it was recently rebuilt and is now open for public use again.
Reach the top of the tower and you'll have some of the best views in Connecticut.
One great thing about the view here is how different it looks throughout the year.
Whether you're admiring spring greenery or fall foliage, you're in for a treat.
On a clear day, you can see for miles. This wide, expansive scene is absolutely magnificent.
The forest contains over 7,000 protected acres and is one of the Nutmeg State's most beautiful natural treasures.
