Are you someone who likes to go hiking in Connecticut? Well, you're in luck because no matter what time of year it is, there are plenty of trails in the Nutmeg State just waiting to be enjoyed! We've got so many great hikes in Connecticut that it can be hard to sort through them all. Some are accessible year-round, some are on the easier side, and some are more suited for experienced hikers. One trail that's a great day hike option is the red and blue loop trails in Ragged Mountain Memorial Preserve. This spot near Berlin can be accessed year-round and has some absolutely incredible views. It has also been noted as among the best hikes in Connecticut by avid hikers in the know!
If you visit the Ragged Mountain Memorial Preserve in the winter, you'll definitely want to wear spikes on your boots.
Many people choose to snowshoe the trail if the snow is deep enough. There can be a lot of rock scrambling, and the trail is rated as moderate, so the entire 5.6 miles is best for those with some hiking experience and no mobility issues.

You'll be treated to sights like a small waterfall...

... and beautiful views of both the Wassel Reservoir...
as well as popular spot Hart Pond., which is one of several beautiful ponds.
As you can imagine, the trail is equally gorgeous when decked out in the green splendor of spring.
The loop trail is well-marked, though of course you'll need to keep an eye out for signage.
It can be easy to get off course due to the number of trails in the area. Even experienced Connecticut hikers get a little turned around at times.

If you're not looking to do a hike that will take up a good chunk of your day, you can always just take a portion of the trail.
Head out for as long as you like and then turn around to head back to your car. And be sure to pack a bite to eat - all of that hiking will definitely make you work up an appetite!
