Connecticut is full of fantastic hikes. From easy one-mile loops to lengthier excursions, our trails are brimming with sights to see. Just a few weeks ago, we shared with you a fascinating hike that leads to an abandoned village. Today we're going to embark on an adventure that takes you above the treetops. While this hike can pack a little punch, the effort is well worth the views you'll be treated to at Chauncey Peak overlook.
Giuffrida Park in Meriden is home to a beautiful reservoir, lovely wetland meadow, and hiking trails to today's destination, Chauncey Peak.
As you begin your journey, the flat wide path cuts through a towering forest alongside the reservoir. You'll feel like a dwarf wandering through this wooded setting.
The 2.2-mile trail will become more challenging as you proceed. Expect elevation gains, roots, and rocks. Lace up your hiking boots or sneakers for this hike.
As with any overlook trail, you'll have to make your way up to take advantage of the views. The section before the peak is worth the scramble!
Once you reach the top, the big reward is right at your fingertips. This top-of-the-world vista is home to some extraordinary scenery.
Look out and take in the landscape. The reservoir seems like it's miles and miles below your feet.
During autumn, the sights are even more colorful with deep reds, golds, and browns coloring the tree foliage.
Your hike down the final stretch of the trail gives way to the captivating sights of the old trap rock quarry.
The Chauncey Peak trail is just over two miles in length. You can find the map on the AllTrails website.
