The kids are back in school and that means fall has (unofficially) arrived in Connecticut. Weekends provide that precious family time and there's nothing quite like an autumn trip to this charming apple farm. With a hilltop orchard offering stunning views and loads of fun activities for the kids, there isn't a more perfect family-friendly outing to be had.
The century-old March Farms is tucked away in Bethlehem in the quiet countryside of the Litchfield Hills. As the leaves start to change and the weather cools, this farm becomes overloaded with the beauty of autumn and plenty of seasonal fun.
From September - October, the orchards are bursting with apples ripe for the picking. Varieties include Cortland, Empire, Gala, Honeycrisp, MacIntosh, and many others.
Fill your bags with apples for snacking, baking, or cooking. Then take a moment to admire the scenery of Litchfield County from the hilltop orchard.
After you've picked your fill, head down to the farm store to stock up on additional fruits and veggies. There's also a bakery where you can find your favorite fall treat - apple cider donuts!
Nibble on apples and donuts while you wander the farm. You won't want to skip a visit to the very friendly and playful goats.
March Farm also has a fabulous playground designed especially for the kids. They can climb hale bales, ride tricycles, dig in the sandbox, and more at the Hayloft Playscape.
Beginning on September 15th, you can try to conquer the Hilltop Corn Maze. It sprawls over five acres and has three miles of pathways. Fun trivia questions will help you navigate your way through so you don't get lost all day!
Pick your own pumpkins begins towards the end of September at March Farm. From apples to donuts, this long-standing farm has the perfect recipe for family-friendly fall fun!
