A few weeks ago, we gushed about Colorado Springs and how it was just named the Most Desirable Place to Live in the U.S. in 2018 by U.S. News & World Report, and today we are back to talk even more about Colorado's second largest city! While the Springs may sound like a place that would be overly crowded and congested, it is actually the opposite, thanks to its beautiful landscape and all-natural attractions. To get a taste of what we are talking about, make plans to walk this magnificent trail that leads to a hidden overlook:
Welcome to the jaw-dropping Garden of the Gods; a National Natural Landmark that consists of deposited red, pink and white sandstone, conglomerate, and limestone red rock formations.
Created millions of years ago during a geological upheaval, these rock formations have long been a destination for locals and tourists alike, with evidence of the area having been visited by both pre-historic people and numerous Native American tribes.
Named one of TripAdvisor’s "Top 10 Things to Do in the United States," the Garden of the Gods is a one-stop shop for all things nature and outdoors, thanks to its amazing photo opportunities...
Pictured is Balance Rock... think of it as Colorado's answer to the Leaning Tower of Pisa.
...hands-on Visitor's Center...
The Garden of the Gods Visitor Center is a history buff's dream come true, thanks to its interactive exhibits on both the history and geology of the area. (Did we mention that admission to the Center is FREE?)
...and epic hiking opportunities!
Speaking of epic hikes, the Garden of the Gods is home to one of the best views in the state, thanks to the unbelievable High Point Overlook!
To access this Overlook and these aerial views, take Highway 24 to Ridge Road and head south.
The Garden of the Gods Visitor & Nature Center is located at 1805 N 30th St. in Colorado Springs and is open daily from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. with FREE admission!
