As Colorado residents are well aware, tornadoes have been a hot topic the last few weeks:
Over the last quarter century alone, Colorado has seen its fair share of large and destructive tornadoes... but how do we stack up to the other 49 states? Thanks to Tornado History Project, we can take a better look at Colorado tornadoes over the past 65 years and see just how we compare.
According to THP, Colorado saw a total of 2,073 tornadoes between July 1950 - August 2015, which in total killed 5 people and injured 285.
One of the more recent Colorado tornadoes was also one that broke records; the EF3 tornado that struck the town of Windsor in 2008 at one point spanned a terrifying 1,760 yards.
What do these numbers mean? And just how do we stack up to other states? According to the National Centers for Environmental Information, the number of average annual tornadoes is a whopping 1,253 -- 53 of which take place in Colorado. Which states have the most? Coloradans have mixed emotions about winter. Happening across Rocky Mountain National Park and other parts of Colorado, frozen ice waves are an unbelievable wintertime phenomenon that can be caused by freezing temperatures and strong winds.
How can these two seemingly regular weather occurrences cause such a unique phenomenon? In the case of the iconic Great Lakes (pictured), where ice waves are even more common, it happens when freezing temperatures, strong winds, and water combine, which form literal waves of chunky ice.
Is this the case for Colorado's ice waves? According to Meteorologist Greg Hanson, who spoke with The Denver Channel, the cause for Colorado's waves is more likely melted snowdrifts that re-froze, resulting in these all-natural art-like sculptures.

Why We Love It: It's taken several trips for me to figure out my perfect "weekender bag that's TSA approved," but I've found my perfect carry on with the TOBIQ Colorado 30L.
