Colorado is full of iconic gardens, like the colorful blooms at the Denver Botanic Gardens, prehistoric formations at the Garden of the Gods, and the high-adrenaline thrill rides at Elitch Gardens. While we cannot get enough of these differing terraces, we can't help but long for the peace and tranquility found in a secret garden in Colorado, like this one hiding away in the charming mountain town of Vail:
With an altitude of a whopping 8,200 feet, the hidden gem known as the Betty Ford Alpine Gardens is the highest botanical garden in the world!
Founded by the Vail Alpine Garden Foundation in 1985, the gardens were later named for former first lady Betty Ford, who had a well-known love of gardening.
Today the grounds are made up of a number of different distinct gardens, including the whimsical Children's Garden...
...vibrant Alpine Crevice Garden...
...serene Meditation Garden and a whole lot more.
In addition to "just" the gardens, Betty Ford Alpine Gardens also boasts a state-of-the-art education center...
...and hands-on classes for both youth and adults.
The Betty Ford Alpine Gardens are located at 530 S Frontage Rd E. in Vail and are open daily from dawn 'til dusk.
