If you've never strolled around Wade Lagoon in the spring, you are in for a treat this year. Wade Park, which encompasses a lovely lagoon and is nestled up against the Cleveland Museum of Art, first underwent development to become a park in 1872. Its owner, Jeptha Wade, was a Cleveland industrialist who would go on to donate the property to the city a decade later. Nowadays, Wade Park in University Circle is one of the city's most cherished parks... and, of course, it's arguably the best place to see cherry blossom blooms in Cleveland. Grab your camera! This is one vibrant event you won't want to miss. (After all, if you miss this year's bloom, you'll have to wait until next year to see it again!)
If you think University Circle is one of Cleveland's most vibrant neighborhoods, you're right... especially in the spring!
University Circle is often described as one of Cleveland's loveliest neighborhoods. This distinguished district, which is full of museums, monuments, and other places of interest, was originally known as Doan’s Corners. As the 1880s progressed, however, the area came to house Western Reserve University, and then the Case School of Applied Science moved into the area. It became known around that time as University Circle, a name that stuck as other institutions began to put down roots in this pretty area.
Each year around mid-April, the space around Wade Lagoon comes to life with vibrant blooms. The brief period of bloom can last up to 14 days!
In Ohio, this means that weather largely controls when the bloom season reaches its peak. In some years, locals will spot green buds on the trees as early as late February.
While it is nearly impossible to predict when peak bloom will arrive (until about 10 days before peak bloom, that is), the entire spring season is magnificent in University Circle's Wade Park.
Commonly called sakura, these gorgeous trees appear time and time again in Japanese tales of life. They're often, understandably, associated with clouds, as well.
There are over 200 varieties of cherry blossoms, and they range in color from white to dark pink.
The most famous cherry blossoms in the nation can be found in Washington D.C., but Cleveland has its own magnificence to offer. Brookside Reservation is another magnificent spot to admire Cleveland's cherry blossom blooms!
They're truly a living work of art, which is highly appropriate considering that these gorgeous trees frame the Cleveland Museum of Art's Fine Arts Garden.
If you can, try to plan a trip out to University Circle to see the cherry blossom blooms. There's no time in Cleveland as lively as springtime!
