Sometimes being a Clevelander makes you feel on top of the world. Though we mean this in a metaphorical sense, there are dozens of dreamy destinations all across Greater Cleveland that will genuinely give the impression that you're on top of the world. The loveliest overlooks can even be found right in your own backyard:
1. Berea Falls Scenic Overlook
Located in the rich and enchanting landscape of the Rocky River Reservation is a view that will take your breath away. At this overlook, you will witness the mighty Rocky River casually carving away at Berea sandstone ledges. During early spring, this waterfall is especially enchanting as snow-fueled waters rage over the jagged sandstone. This dreamy spot can be found near the intersection of Valley Parkway and Barrett Road.
2. Ledges Overlook
Ledges Overlook in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park is extremely popular among visitors, and it is no secret why. The short Ledges Trail, located at 701 Truxell Road, is an easy hike that leads to a mesmerizing viewpoint. If you have time, take the 2.2-mile loop through the gorgeous sandstone ledges.
3. Bridal Veil Falls Scenic Overlook
In the heart of Bedford Reservation is an enchanting creek that fills the park with serene sounds of flowing water. At Bridal Veil Falls, the power of Deerlick Creek is especially notable as it billows and flows like a veil. This gorgeous spot can be found off of Gorge Parkway in the Bedford Reservation. You'll see a sign for Bridal Veil Falls Parking Lot—park there and follow trail signs to the overlook.
4. Stinchcomb-Groth Memorial Scenic Overlook
Rocky River Reservation features many sites where one moment you are surrounded by forest and the next you are staring into a deeply stunning river valley, but the Stinchcomb-Groth Memorial Scenic Overlook is known to be one of the most beautiful sites. Take the River Overlook Loop Trail for a view of the Rocky River that will knock your socks off.
5. Tinker’s Creek Gorge Scenic Overlook
Tinker’s Creek is the largest tributary of the Cuyahoga River. In Bedford Reservation, the creek has carved a spectacular gorge that is gorgeous in every season. This site was declared a National Natural Landmark in 1967, and it's plain to see why. This dreamy destination can be found off Gorge Parkway between Dunham and Egbert.
6. Buttermilk Falls Scenic Overlook
There are actually two waterfalls by the name of Buttermilk Falls in Greater Cleveland, but this falls is tucked away in the breathtaking campus of North Chagrin Reservation in the Cleveland Metroparks. Here, Buttermilk Creek cascades over exposed Berea sandstone and trickles into the Chagrin River. The site is especially moving after a heavy rain or as the winter snows are melting. You can access this incredible site from Buttermilk Falls Parkway.
7. Cascade Valley Metro Park Overlook
Overlook Trail is a flat and easy half-mile hike that leads you to a spectacular overlook 125 feet above the stunning Cuyahoga River oxbow. This park once hosted the Cascade Race, a channel that fueled mills along the Ohio and Erie Canal, and traces of the area's hydraulic-powered history can still be spotted in the park. You can access the Overlook area from 354 Sackett Avenue.
8. Brandywine Falls Overlook
Brandywine Gorge Trail is only 1.5 miles in total distance and it's a loop, so this hike is short, sweet, and incredibly beautiful. It leads to a boardwalk that will bring you up close and personal with the majestic Brandywine Falls. You can access this trail from 8176 Brandywine Road.
9. Terminal Tower Observation Deck
No list of Cleveland overlooks is complete without mention of the Terminal Tower Observation Deck. This dreamy view is open to the public on weekends from April through November. There is no better way to take in the splendor of the city than to stop by the 42nd floor of Terminal Tower. There is a small admission fee of $5, but you can spend 25 minutes staring at the dreamy cityscape stretching before you.
