Nothing is quite as fun as heading out and enjoying an activity that's fun for the whole family. Here in Northeast Ohio, the parks offer one of the best ways to get out, enjoy some sunshine, and make some memories. However, there's one unique park near Cleveland that offers so much more. Prepare to interact with pigs, horses, goats, and everything in between!
At first glance, the Lake Metroparks Farmpark is just like any other local natural oasis.
The Lake Metroparks Farmpark opened in 1990, and it has been delighting visitors ever since. Like any other local park, it has hiking trails in beautiful surroundings. However, the animals that live here might look a little bit different than those you'd encounter on a typical hike.
As the name suggests, this place is a working farm.
It's open Tuesday through Sunday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., and it is undeniably the best place to learn about what goes into life on an Ohio farm.
Like any other park, it has hiking trails, playgrounds, and shady places to enjoy your lunch.
With 235 acres, there's plenty to see and do here. While these spots provide relaxation, others will help you get in touch with the area's agricultural roots.
Unlike most other local parks, this is one of the best places to get hands-on experience with farm animals.
There is a small admission fee to help the farm raise money to give its resident animals a good life, so it's well worth it (although activity military members and their families get in for free, and there are also Lake County resident free days to help you save). You'll love getting to know some gentle giants and some tiny creatures that are just as full of personality.
It's home to dairy cows, sheep, rabbits, horses, and so much more.
Believe it or not, this landscape has been a working farm since 1831. Each day, visitors can witness daily activities that shine light on what goes into maintaining a farm. Seasonal fun like sheep shearing can also be enjoyed!
Many of their daily demonstrations and educational programs are extremely hands-on, so you can get up close and personal with the animals.
The plant science center and the machinery building offer alternative opportunities to learn. Whether you're 9 or 99, you'll likely walk away having learned something new!
And there's always time to stop and smell the roses... or whatever is growing in their greenhouse!
There's even a scratch and sniff garden tour to help you indulge your senses! Each trip to this fun local park offers unique memory-making fun.
Depending on the time of year that you visit, you might catch a special event or two.
Connect with Lake Metroparks on Facebook to see what events are coming in the near future. Of course, daily activities around the farm are just as fun as seasonal festivities!
And, of course, there's a chance you'll encounter cute baby animals during your visit.
Be prepared to take lots of pictures, because the Farmpark is kind of cuteness overload.
Family-friendly fun awaits in the Lake Metroparks Farmpark.
