It's hard to believe that a restaurant could be considered a hidden gem when it's located right along a major river, but often times that is, indeed, the case. Especially once you get out of downtown Cincinnati, our river is actually home to quite a few local eateries that allow you to drive or boat right on up for a bite to eat. One such spot is just east of town in New Richmond, and this floating restaurant offers unbeatable views and a unique atmosphere. Skipper's River Cafe is a floating dining destination that is off the beaten path, yet right on the river, and will definitely make your summer complete.
Skipper's River Cafe is a popular spot for boaters, but many locals may not realize this waterfront restaurant even exists.
Affectionately known as the "Key West of Clermont County," this floating cafe definitely has a tropical vacation vibe. Even if you don't have a boat (or access to one), you can drive up, park in the lot, and head across the walkway to the restaurant.
The open-air feel of Skipper's allows for plenty of great views, while still being shaded and comfortable for guests.
It's not fancy, and many consider it a "dive," but that laid-back feel is a big part of its appeal. Whether you're sitting on a colorful bar stool or a picnic table by the water, it's a one-of-a-kind dining experience on the river.
As you sit with friends and family, enjoying a cold drink and a hot meal, you can watch the boats arrive and the barges pass by.
The sweeping views of the river are really unlike any others you'll find in our area. The riverfront eateries downtown are scenic, with the river on one side and the sights of downtown on the other, but these views at Skipper's are utterly relaxing and unique.
The food at Skipper's is simple and satisfying, and the menu has something for everyone.
The fish sandwich is a favorite and tastes even better by the water. You can also sample a number of cafe classics like burgers, sandwiches, wraps, and appetizers. The bar serves up a wide assortment of drinks, from cold local beers to sweet tropical concoctions.
When you decide to visit Skipper's for the first time, try to go at sunset. It's been given the award of "Best View" around town, and it's especially magical as the sun goes down.
Skipper's River Cafe is a seasonal restaurant that is typically open April through October. Their hours are Monday - Friday from 11 a.m. to 2:30 a.m., and Saturday & Sunday from 9 a.m. to 2:30 a.m. There are plenty of opportunities to head east along the river and visit this floating cafe that's the perfect summer dining destination.
Skipper's River Cafe is a little slice of waterfront heaven, and a great spot to gather, grab a bite to eat, and take in a stunning sunset. Did you know about this floating hidden gem? What other spots on the river do you love? Let us know in the comments!
