A picture is worth a thousand words, but why settle for a picture when you can experience the real thing? There's nothing like taking in a view that reminds you why the Golden State is the best state, like the one you'll witness at Red Rock Scenic Overlook in San Bernardino County. Offering stupendous views that seem to go on forever on a clear day, you'll be so glad you pulled over to spend a few moments here. And do be sure to bring your camera; this is a view you don't want to forget.
Red Rock Scenic Overlook is located just outside the community of Rimforest in the San Bernardino Mountains. Boasting breathtaking views that on a clear day never seem to end, this overlook is well-worth a pitstop when you find yourself in the area!
The overlook is located right along State Highway 18 between Baylis Picnic Area and Rimforest. This section of highway is known as the Rim of the World Scenic Byway and is famed for its stunning views along the cliffs of the San Bernardino Mountains.
There are plenty of must-see viewpoints along Rim of the World Scenic Byway, but Red Rock is perhaps one of the lesser-known. The turnout offers spectacular vistas of the mountain's "front range" that seem to go on for as long as the eye can see.
A small rock wall is all that separates you from the endless SoCal views. The wall was built during the construction of the Rim of the World Highway in 1915.
If you happen to visit on a clear day, you'll be treated to views that stretch all the way into the valleys. However, there's something kind of magical about looking out at a dense blanket of clouds below!
The overlook is open year-round and there's truly no bad time to visit. Make an adventure of it and continue on to explore nearby attractions like Strawberry Peak Fire Lookout, Lake Silverwood Scenic Overlook, and Big Bear Lake.
There's a whole lot to see in this beautiful Southern California mountain range. Plan a visit to Red Rock Scenic Overlook for a view that never disappoints!
