All aboard! Spanning 14 breathtaking miles from West Sacramento to Woodland, the Sacramento RiverTrain makes it possible to view Northern California's beautiful scenery like never before.
The local family-owned business is dedicated to preserving an important part of California history. The train traverses the historic "Woodland Branch" which was originally constructed back in 1911 by the Northern Electric Company. It was used to link Yolo County's bountiful farmlands with the rising city of Sacramento.
The RiverTrain meanders through the stunning countryside at a leisurely 10 to 15 miles per hour, giving you plenty of time to drink up the amazing views. The train ride can take up to three hours but you'll find yourself wishing it would last forever.
The train ride includes dinner, beer and wine tastings, and even live entertainment. They also offer themed rides that are an absolute blast, including "Great Train Robbery" and "Murder Mystery" themes.
The RiverTrain is composed of three open-air cars and three enclosed coaches with the comforting addition of A/C. Wherever you choose to sit, you'll have excellent views of the mighty Sacramento River which closely follow the train's route.
Aboard the train are friendly and helpful staff that will gladly teach you all about the history of the train industry's impact on this region. The RiverTrain is a fun and unique way of commemorating an important part of California history.
The fun doesn't end on the train! During the second half of the excursion, passengers will get out and walk to a beautiful picnic area by the river where you can stop and enjoy a provided lunch or dinner.
During this time, delightful entertainment is provided such as a Wild West show (for the Wild West themed rides) or even gold panning in a sluice box. Afterwards, you'll board the train again and get back to enjoying the gorgeous scenery.
