There may be plenty of hikes and outdoor adventures that are already on your Southern California bucket list, but there's one trail in particular that offers a little something that you most likely won't encounter anywhere else.
If you're up for a short hike that's only a mile long, then you'll be delighted to wander along this trail that will take you to an unexpected cave hiding right here in SoCal. Not only is this cave a rare find, but it's also quite easy to reach. Let's take a look.
Along a short and breezy trail in the town of Tarzana, you'll find a hidden cave that makes this quick hike quite an adventure.
The starting point for this trail is located right at the end point of Vanalden Avenue. Parking nearby is fairly accessible and should be open to the public.
The trail is easy enough to bring along your dogs. If you do bring pets with you make sure to keep them leashed and don't forget to bring extra water for them, especially during the summer months.
Around the half mile marker you'll see this hidden cave come in to view. Even if you're not looking for it, it's pretty hard to miss.
Although there are multiple openings, it's pretty clear which one is the main entry point.
The first thing you'll notice is that the Vanalden Cave is wide enough to explore inside.
If you're curious and brave enough to enter, you'll notice some bizarre carvings along the walls that look quite ancient and primitive.
Once inside, you'll also have a better view of the many craters that line the ceiling of the cave. It looks like something out of a Sci-Fi movie, but you can be assured this is definitely real life.
The view of the sky from inside the cave is a magical shot. Especially on a clear day when the sun beams through the stone. It's like you've been transported to another world.
Have you ever gone on an adventure on the Vanalden trail to explore this cave? If you haven't discovered this yet, it's definitely a fun place to explore on a weekend outing.
