Tucked away in the forest near Markleeville, Grover Hot Springs State Park is the definition of a hidden gem. Open year-round, it's definitely the place to go when you're seeking some sweet solitude in nature.
Boasting a forested campground, picnic area, hiking trails, and fishing streams, there's something for every outdoor enthusiast to enjoy at Grover Hot Springs. Whether you have time for just a few hours or an entire weekend, there's always something to explore within this fantastic park.
Of course, the highlight of this park is the natural hot spring where you can enjoy outstanding Sierra Nevada views while soaking away all of your worries. Admission to the hot spring facility costs $10 for adults and $5 for kids.
Surrounded by alpine views and wildflower meadows, the park definitely makes for a memorable camping destination! The campground contains 76 family sites which you can reserve ahead of time from mid-May through mid-September. The campground then becomes first-come, first-served until October.
The park's various hiking trails are a great way to explore this rich landscape, especially the Burnside Trail. This moderate hike takes you to a beautiful waterfall after three miles, and the gorgeous Burnside Lake after ten miles.
There's an easier hiking trail called the Transition Walk that's more suited for families and those looking for a casual stroll. This hike is more of a nature trail that loops around the park's alpine meadow, and it's stunning from beginning to end.

EDITOR'S NOTE: Unfortunately, the hot springs pools remain closed due to a fire that burned through the park in the summer of 2021. Day use of hiking trails and picnic areas are open, but the park is still in the process of rebuilding and refurnishing all that was damaged or destroyed in the fire.
