The next time you feel like getting some fresh air and visiting a beautiful beach, look no further than this awesome trail in Mill Valley.
An offshoot of the Marin Headlands, a trek into Tennessee Valley is perfect for a family adventure. Not only is the 3-mile trail absolutely picturesque, but it also leads you straight to a beautiful beach!
Located just north of the Golden Gate Bridge, the trail offers gorgeous views from beginning to end. Taking you across rolling hills, shrublands, and wetlands, there's truly never a dull moment on this leisurely trail.
The trail begins at the parking area that's right along Tennessee Valley Road. From here, the trail stretches for 1.7-miles straight to Tennessee Beach. It's easy to follow and mostly flat, making it perfect for hikers of all skill levels.
Arriving at the beach is nothing short of magical! You're treated to views of the ocean for most of the trail, but nothing compares to getting that first view of the beach below.
Tennessee Beach has a very secluded feel thanks to the towering rock walls that completely surround it. Visiting at low tide means you might get a glimpse of a rusting ship engine from an 1853 shipwreck. At high tide, the beach completely fills up, so time your visit accordingly!
Despite being just a short, 20-minute drive away from San Francisco, the trail and the beach feel incredibly tranquil. Wildlife is abundant in the area, and the area comes alive with wildflowers and vegetation during spring. Remember, take only pictures and leave only footprints.
