Winding along cliffs and boasting big blue views the entire way, you'll be nothing short of stunned by the beauty this trail has to offer. The next time you find yourself in the area, make it your mission to seek out the Kortum Trail!
Sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean await on this simple trek along the cliffs in Sonoma County. The Kortum Trail seems to be hidden in plain sight and it's the perfect trek for when you feel like an easygoing coastal adventure.
The Kortum Trail is an out-and-back trail that stretches for 4.6-miles and gains about 270-feet in elevation. It's rated as easy, making it ideal for families with kids, casual hikers, and sightseers.
The trail connects Blind Beach near Goat Rock in the north to Wright's Beach in the south. It's part of the 17-mile-long Sonoma Coast State Park and boasts a birds-eye-view of spectacular sandy beaches, oceanfront cliffs, and the seemingly endless sea.
To get to the trailhead from Bodega Bay, take Highway 1 north for eight miles. Turn left at Goat Rock Road and continue for nearly a mile to the Blind Beach parking lot. From here, it's just a short walk to the trailhead where you can easily follow the signs.
As you make your way along the trail, you'll traverse boardwalks, bridges, and well-maintained dirt pathways. It's a very easy trail to follow and is fairly flat besides some hilly sections. The view from the 70-foot-high bluffs is simply breathtaking.
Although the trail is mostly straightforward, you'll find that there's plenty of opportunities to explore in the area, including nearby rock outcroppings, grassy bluffs, and marshland. If you wish, there are a few foot trails that will take you right down to the beach.
Spend a few hours traversing the oceanfront cliffs when you take on the Kortum Trail. Offering incredible views from start to finish, it doesn't get much better than this coastal hike!
