It was developed by the State Water Project and is recognized as the Project’s largest recreational lake. The park opens to the public every day, except December 25th from sunrise to sunset.

While some sites accommodate trailers, RVs, and tents, others are for RVs and trailers only. Amenities include picnic tables, fire rings, dump stations, restrooms with flush toilets and hot showers, and potable tap water.
2. Swimming
The designated swim area of Castaic Lagoon opens seasonally. In the summer, the beach opens Thursday through Sunday from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm. Animals are not allowed in the water and must be leashed at all times. Note that swimming in Castaic Lake is only allowed at the designated area, and only when a lifeguard is present.
3. Boating
Canoeing or kayaking is another favorite summertime activity. Only non-gasoline-powered boats are allowed on the lower lake. If you do not have one, you can rent a paddleboat or float tube. The lagoon has approximately 197 acres of shallow waterways and 3 miles of shoreline for your enjoyment and exploration.
4. Fishing
Castaic Lake State Recreation Area has a 24-hour fishing pier with a fish cleaning station situated near the lower lake campground entrance. The species of fish available include largemouth bass, striped bass, bullhead, channel catfish, and rainbow trout. To rent a fishing boat, you must be 18 years or older and provide a valid driver's license. You cannot fish from the docks or launch ramp.
5. Bird Walks
It is no secret that Castaic Lake is home to various wildlife and countless species of birds. One of the easiest ways to spot the latter is to tread the designated trails for bird walking. A trained naturalist conducts these walks. The knowledge and insight they offer will improve your viewing experience.
