Bodega Head is a rocky headland on the Sonoma Coast that marks the entrance into Bodega Harbor. The rugged peninsula boasts magnificent views of the ocean, which you can enjoy via the short and sweet Bodega Head Trail.
The Bodega Head Trail is a 1.7-mile loop trail in Sonoma Coast State Park. The popular dirt trail takes you around the end of the peninsula, treating you to jaw-dropping vistas of the Pacific Ocean's deep blue waters.
The trail is mostly flat with a minor amount of elevation gain during an easy uphill stretch. An overlook offering an excellent place to stop and enjoy the view marks the hike's halfway point.
There's really no bad time to explore Bodega Head's natural splendor. Spring brings wildflowers like California poppy, paintbrush, and yarrow, some of which last into summer. During winter, it's quite possible you'll catch a glimpse of migrating whales out in the ocean waters.
The trail also provides access to a small beach. Simply follow a fork to the left shortly after the start of the trail. Further along, another trail leads down to the Bodega Dunes.
Dogs aren't allowed in the park, so you'll have to leave your furry friends at home. Picnic areas, informative panels, and toilets can be found within the park.
Bodega Head is picture-perfect all year long. Plan a day on the Sonoma Coast and take on the Bodega Head Trail for a lovely day hike! Learn more by visiting the park's website.
