Taking a nice leisurely stroll down an oceanfront boardwalk in Southern California is the kind of activity that's perfect for a summer day. Whether you enjoy people watching, window shopping, biking, or walking, there's something for everyone to enjoy along these scenic boardwalks. Here are 7 of my favorite boardwalks in SoCal that will add some fun to your weekend. Make sure to stop for an ice cream or frozen treat along the way at one of the many local shops as you enjoy the oceanfront view on a hot summer day.
1. Avalon
Embrace the sights and sounds of summer along the boardwalk in Avalon while visiting Catalina Island. Enjoy great restaurants, lively crowds, and a heavenly waterfront view.
2. Newport Beach
Enjoy this 3-mile long oceanfront boardwalk on a lazy summer day. Be prepared for a crowd, as this is a popular spot for locals and visitors to take in the view of the ocean and sand on foot or by bike.
3. Venice Beach
The most lively boardwalk in SoCal goes to Venice Beach. Street vendors, artists, and performers of every kind can be found at this bustling boardwalk that is a must-see destination during your visit to Venice Beach.
4. Hermosa Beach
The Strand in Hermosa Beach is a beautiful 2-mile boardwalk that is wide enough for walkers and cyclists to experience the path together. Lots of restaurants and shops line this scenic strip, so stop in for a bite to eat at one of the local restaurants while you're there.
5. Santa Monica Boardwalk
After spending some time at Santa Monica Pier, head over to this nearby boardwalk and take a stroll by the beach and catch a colorful evening sunset.
6. Coronado
In addition to charming shops and cafés along the boardwalk in Coronado, you'll also experience an epic view of the Coronado bridge and downtown San Diego. Experience the boardwalk at night for an especially magical moment.
7. Oceanfront Boardwalk -- San Diego
Perhaps the most popular boardwalk in this part of SoCal is the Oceanfront Boardwalk which stretches for 3.5 miles from Mission Beach to Pacific Beach in San Diego. This is a great destination for the whole family as the activities at this boardwalk are endless. Rent some bikes or take a stroll and enjoy the ocean view and the funky beach cottages dotted along the strip. You'll pass tons of restaurants and shops, so make sure to stop in and support the local retailers.
