During the summertime, you'll find Buffalonians flocking to any and everybody of water to cool off and enjoy the scenic views. If you're ready to spend the day doing something a little different at one of our nearby beaches though, we have an adventure lined up that will bring out the treasure hunter in you. Take a look:
Just 75 miles north of Buffalo, the marvelous Hamlin Beach State Park lies right along Lake Ontario.
The state park stretches across more than 1,280 acres of old farmland, waterfront views, picnic areas...
…more 260 tent and trailer camping sites, a boat launch, hiking trails, and so much more.
Throughout the year, you'll find people from all across New York who have traveled out to Hamlin Beach to enjoy the never-ending beauty of Lake Ontario.
While some choose to go swimming in these vibrant waters during the summer, you'll find others doing a bit of treasure hunting.
Lake Ontario has seen dozens of shipwrecks over the course of history, leaving debris of these wrecks scattered throughout the lake - including quite a bit of glass.
These bits of old glass have been worn down by years of tumbling waves, softening them into stunning works of art that bring unexpected pops of color to the beach.
Due to the pattern of Lake Ontario’s tides and currents, the Hamlin Beach State Park is one of the best places to find these gem-like treasures that have washed ashore.
You could easily spend an entire afternoon combing the beach and collecting treasures, or turn your visit into a whole weekend adventure and explore all that Hamlin Beach State Park has to offer.
Hamlin Beach State Park is, itself, a hidden gem, and the treasures you’ll find here just make it all the more special.
