Alright, Austin. We know you like to keep it weird. Everyone has heard about Austin's quirky festivals, vibrant street art, and adventurous restaurants, but those aren't the only things livening up Texas' capitol city. Austin's outdoor excursions shake up the mundane, too, and this destination is unlike any other in the state. If you want to let loose and embrace your inner flower child, then head over to Hippie Hollow. This Austin beach will set your spirit free. Peace out, dude.
Aching to get away from downtown Austin's hectic hustle? Look no further than Hippie Hollow.
Just thirty minutes away from downtown's bustling skyline sits this peaceful little oasis. The clear water beckons, and you'll want to throw on a swimsuit and make a splash.
But the quiet atmosphere and relaxing water aren't the only things that draw people here.
There's something about this place that makes you want to embrace your earthy side, relax in the open air, and soak up the sun.
Be free and take a dip! At this Austin beach, clothing is optional.
You read that right; Hippie Hollow is Texas' only clothing-optional public beach. Go ahead - cross off "skinny dipping" from your bucket list. There's no one to stop you.
This hippie haven wasn't always the nudist-friendly hangout that it is today.
In the 1960s, this remote swimming spot became a popular place for Austin-area hippies to hang out. Controversy abounded in the '70s, when nearby landowners complained about the frequent skinny-dipping occurring in these refreshing waters. Of course, no harm was ever caused by these frolickers, so Travis County spent most of their time focusing on larger issues. The park was leased to Travis county in 1983 and became an official clothing-optional beach in 1985.
There's no better place to embrace your sense of adventure than at Hippie Hollow.
Hippie Hollow is open every day from 9:00 a.m to dark. The park is restricted to those over the age of 18 and can be found at 7000 Comanche Trl.
