You've seen it on tourism brochures. It's popped up on banners and billboards. But no matter how many times you come across it, The Pennybacker Bridge looks astonishingly beautiful. Bring your camera and your friends. This magnificent Austin overlook is worthy of a little adventure.
Begin your hike at 5400 N Capital of Texas Hwy. Here, you'll see a paved parking lot and plenty of signs pointing the way.
After a short stroll, you'll be greeted with jaw-dropping sights.
The Lake Austin waters will glisten in the sunlight as motorboats create waves along the shore.
Stand along the rock ledge and take in your surroundings. This lookout is especially great for photography enthusiasts. If you look closely enough, you can even see the Long Center on the other side of the lake.
This lookout gets even more spectacular during special events. Watch the fireworks explode into the sky on the Fourth of July, and gape at the twinkling lights during Christmastime.
But, sometimes, the most magical sight is a simple sunset. This is the ideal place to watch the Violet Crown wash over the city.
Whether Austinites call it the Austin 360 or the Pennybacker Bridge, one thing is certain: this place is magical.
This isn't the only lovely lookout in Central Texas. If you enjoyed this, then you should plan your trip to the highest point in Austin as soon as possible.
