Riders, hikers, and walkers will enjoy this easy loop around Lake Sequoyah. This retreat is a quiet shoreside adventure in the forested countryside of Fayetteville. Today's featured trail has everything needed for an enjoyable afternoon including waterfalls! Let's explore the trail more and see what adventures await:
On the far east side of Fayetteville, between Wyman and Harris, you'll discover Lake Sequoyah.
The 389-acre lake is part of a 1,400-acre park, aptly named Lake Sequoyah Park. The area was originally intended for a city water supply but now the lake is simply a recreational destination.
The lake has a handful of trails but one of the best to trek is Shoreline Trail.
This hike around the westside of the lake is an easy tour for families. The trail is a 2.1-mile loop with a modest elevation gain of 147 feet. The path is well worn but not paved.
In addition to family members, horses and dogs can also enjoy the trail!
The trails around Lake Sequoyah are all equine-friendly. Just be sure to pack in and pack out. Dogs will need to stay leashed and cleaned up after.
The trail tours around the lake's dam...
In the late 1950s, Fayetteville used this reservoir as a city water supply. The city switched to the Beaver Water District in the mid-60s. The fresh water attracts all sorts of critters, including a vast variety of birds. You may even spot a bald eagle during your hike!
...as well as waterfall!
This staircase cascade is the perfect place to hone your waterfall photography skills!
There's still plenty to do after your hike, too!
Spend the afternoon fishing or bring a kayak to paddle around the lake. This area has picnic tables as well if you need to refuel from your trailblazing. To ensure the lake stays clean for further visitors and animals, always practice Leave No Trace.
Come for the breezy hike but stay for the rest of the recreation at Lake Sequoyah!
