Every year, thousands of tourists come to Arkansas to see some of our most beautiful places and eat at our most famous restaurants. They usually head straight for Hot Springs National Park, Mammoth Spring State Park and Mount Magazine. All these spots are definitely worth a visit, but there are other gorgeous places here that only locals know about. If you want to avoid the tourists this summer, but still see some of the Natural State's most stunning beauty, check out these 11 places.
1. William E. "Bill" Clark Presidential Park Wetlands Boardwalk, Little Rock
Wow! Did you know that there are 13 acres of preserved wetlands right in the middle of our capital city? Take a stroll along this boardwalk, which puts you right in the middle of the wetlands. You'll find it at 1200 President Clinton Avenue, right in Little Rock.
2. Lost Valley Recreation Area, Near Ponca
People pass up this little spot, but that's a real mistake - it's a pretty little gem! Explore the two-mile hiking trail which takes you past Eden Falls Cave and Eden Falls, and don't miss the cool rock formations and waterfalls. You'll find Lost Valley Recreation Area near Ponca, along Highway 43.
3. Minute Man, El Dorado
Some of the best things in Arkansas are known well by locals and missed by everyone else. One of the tastiest burgers you'll ever eat is found at Minute Man in El Dorado. It's well worth the drive! 318 West Main Street, El Dorado.
4. Spainhour Falls/Spadra Creek, Farris Springs
This little-known creek offers up several small waterfalls, plus the stunning Spainhour Falls. The natural beauty here is incomparable. This spot is located about 10 miles from Clarksville,
5. Jonesboro
The Delta region of Arkansas is often under-rated, which is a real shame. You'll find some very charming towns in this part of the state. Jonesboro is one such town that just begs to be explored. Shop on the adorable main street, check out the museums and enjoy the history of this pretty place.
6. Riverfront Park, Little Rock
This little oasis in Little Rock is nestled right on the banks of the river. The park covers 11 blocks and offers everything from playgrounds to jogging paths. The park is located in the River Market District.
7. Chopping Block Steakhouse, Mena
This steakhouse has been in business for 47 years, so they've had plenty of time to perfect the art of preparing steak. This family-owned gem is a cozy spot with great service and delicious food. 1156 Highway 71 South, Mena.
8. Stone Wind Retreat, near Chester
Do you need to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life? This retreat is the place to go. Stay in a yurt and enjoy the stunning views, hot tubs and quiet, relaxing atmosphere.
9. Cedar Creek
You'll find Cedar Creek in Petit John State Park, and it's truly a stunning little slice of nature. Take Cedar Creek Trail or Cedar Falls Trail to get your fill of this delightful waterway.
10. Wiederkeher's Weinkeller Restaurant, Altus
This small-town restaurant is located in wine country, and it's well worth the drive! This cozy spot is situated right on a vineyard, so you know that your wine pairing is going to be perfect with your meal.
11. Pam's Grotto, Near Haw Creek Campground
A little hidden gem right in the middle of the Ozarks, Pam's Grotto is accessed by a quick half-mile-long trail. Once you get here, you'll love the cool, shady surroundings and the pretty little waterfall!
