From the beloved rapids of the Cossatot River to the challenging drops in Richland Creek, Arkansas certainly isn't lacking in white water adventures. The Natural State does have one particular trip that everyone can enjoy. Avid white water rafters and casual floaters can agree that Big Piney Creek is a perfect Arkansas getaway. The 10-mile trip appeals to every skill level and has a little bit of everything from rafting and floating to camping and fishing.

One water adventure that every Arkansan needs to take is on Big Piney Creek.

The creek is 67 miles in total but today we'll be looking at the 10-mile stretch from Treaty to the Long Pool Recreation Area.

Big Piney is a favorite for whitewater rafters.

Depending on rains, the II+ rapids feature wave-trains, surf spots, and ledges. You know you'll have a good time with rapid names like "Roller Coaster," "Surfing Hole," and "Cascades of Extinction."

Optimal levels are between 3 and 5 feet for experienced rafters.

Big Piney tends to run a little low during the summer but that certainly doesn't mean you can't plan a trip now.

The creek is also a favorite for floating families.

The best floats will be at levels between 1.8-3 feet. Children need to be at least 7 yrs. old and know how to swim.

Besides the beautiful forests alongside the banks, adventurers can enjoy wildlife spotting and floating pass some impressive rock formations.

The end of your Big Piney excursion ends in the beautiful Long Pool Rec Area.

One of the more popular put-ins is located on the Helton Farm. They charge $3/boat, which can be paid at their house to the right of the field accessing the creek. The farm is about a mile north of the Treat Cemetery. For directions from Long Pool Rec Area to the cemetery, use this map.
