We're sure your summer itinerary is filling up fast but we do have the perfect suggestion for one of the lazy days. If you'd rather skip the crowds at the water park for a more natural getaway, head to Kirkwood Falls for a swimming retreat. This waterfall-fed creek will easily be a new family favorite.
The Ouachita National Forest is a treasure trove of summer adventures. From hiking to waterfall chasing, the forest always has something to offer.

This gorgeous green lagoon is an easy park-and-you're-here destination.
The drive may take longer than the trek but beautiful area is absolutely worth the trouble. From Havana (the nearest town), it takes just under 10 miles to reach the secluded Kirkwood Falls.
Kirkwood Falls may not be the tallest waterfall in the state but it sure is one of the prettiest.
We do love the swimming at Kings River or Natural Dam but there's always fewer crowds at this particular waterfall-fed pool. The waterfall is great for photography or just a family-friendly swim.
If you do want to stretch your legs, hike further up the creek to reach more waterfalls.
Hiking up Mill Creek is technically a bushwhack but it's definitely an easy one. In less than a mile you'll come across the Middle Kirkwood Falls and this one, Upper Kirkwood Falls.
You may not be the only person at this swimming hole but this rush certainly beats the more popular spots any day.
