We’ve recently talked about some stellar fishing trails and today we have another group of themed trails. The eight trails on this list are where you can find the most impressive caves in the Natural State, most of which will show you wonders both above and beneath the earth.
Please note, Dripstone Trail is temporarily closed.
1. Indian Rockhouse Cave Trail
The Indian Rockhouse Trail is 3.5 miles round-trip and is considered moderately strenuous. It will lead you to one of the most impressive caves in the Natural State—the cave was so lovely, in fact, that Native Americans once called it home.
The Indian Rockhouse Cave Trail is located in the Buffalo National River Wilderness.
2. Bear Cave Trail
Bear Cave isn’t a true cave, really; it’s just a place where large boulders come together to form one a series of the most spectacular natural shelters and impressive passageways in Arkansas. The hike is .25 miles and moderately difficult.
Bear Cave Trail can be found in Petit Jean State Park.
3. Moonshiner’s Cave Trail
If you’ve ever wanted to explore an old moonshiner’s cave up in the mountains, you’re in luck. This impressive cave and its interestingly constructed façade will have you in awe. The hike is steep and fairly strenuous, but it’s only 1/8 of a mile long.
Moonshiner’s Cave Trail is in Devil’s Den State Park.
4. Dripstone Trail
This trail isn’t exactly one you can do for free or without a little planning. You’ll have to go up to Mountain View when Blanchard Springs Caverns is open. You will see one of the best show caves in Arkansas on the .5-mile, one hour-long tour of Dripstone Trail.
Dripstone Trail is in Blanchard Springs Caverns.
5. Lost Valley Trail
You’ll find lots of wonders on the Lost Valley Trail, including waterfalls. Cobb Cave is a large bluff shelter, and there is another small underground cave as well. The hike will take you through 2.2 miles of gorgeous scenery.
Lost Valley Trail is located near Ponca.
6. Shaddox Hollow Nature Trail
Located in Hobbs State Park, Shaddox Hollow Trail has a few steep spots, but it’s generally an easy enough hike for anyone. The trail is a 1.5-mile loop, which is a short hike, but well worth it.
Shaddox Hollow Nature Trail can be found in Hobbs State Park.
7. Seven Hollows Trail
You’ll find several geological wonders along the 4.5 miles of Seven Hollows Trail, including rock shelters and evidence of the bluff-dwelling Native Americans who once lived there. Be sure to check out the turtle rocks while you’re there! They’re not caves, but they’re still pretty cool.
Seven Hollows Trail is located in Petit Jean State Park.
8. Pedestal Rocks Loop Trail
The caves at Pedestal Rocks are seriously cool-looking, and they’re just below Pedestal Rocks Loop Trail. The 2.2-mile trail is moderately difficult, and you’ll be totally delighted by the geological wonders you’ll find there.
Pedestal Rocks Loop Trail is located at the Pedestal Rocks Scenic Area.
