It's not hard to see why Arkansas is known as the Natural State. Pick any corner and you'll find unbelievably gorgeous forests, mountain, and rivers. The natural beauty doesn't end there however! Step below ground to see an ancient world that showcases Arkansas' primal magnificence. Let's take a tour of one of the oldest caves in the United States, the Bull Shoals Caverns.
Bull Shoals may have only been around since the mid-40s but the town has an attraction that's over 350 million years old.
Step below ground to the Bull Shoals Caverns to see a truly unique cave. You'll need to go to 1011 CS Woods Blvd., Bull Shoals, AR 72619 to begin your tour.
Unlike the open domes of Blanchard Springs Caverns, Bull Shoals has more of tunnel-like experience.
The proximity of the tunnels allow you see the different details of the caverns up close. The different experiences make both caves worth a visit or four. Unfortunately, Arkansans have lost access to many of the state's wild and show caves (due to economics and environmental factors like the white nose syndrome in bats). This makes tours like Bull Shoals Caverns all the more special.
Touring the tunnels will take you to a completely different world.
Since the cavern is so old, every type of formation known in the United States can be found here. Spot the local residents like bats and salamanders as you trek pass stalactites, stalagmites, helictites, and other interesting formations.
You'll also come across this spring-fed waterfall, which is positively dazzling.
You'll find it in the aptly named Diamond Chapel Room. The potable water is over 99% pure but because of it's size does not have any fish.
Take on this fascinating cave tour for a truly otherworldly experience.
Tours are $16 for adults and $8 for ages 6-11. For more information you can visit the Caverns' website.
