Although it's not a long hike, the trail to Accord Hollow Falls is quite the hidden gem. This detour from the Ozark Highlands Trail is well worth the bit of effort, after all no hike would be complete without a waterfall (or three). Let's see what treasures are hiding deep in the forest as we hit the trail.
This two-tiered waterfall hike is short but unbelievably rewarding. Be sure to plan your route before heading out though!
Like with any of our highlighted trails, it's always good to do additional research before jumping the car. We highly recommend reading this book and scrolling through this blog. Today's falls is in the middle of the Ozark National Forest near Oark.
The trail is under a mile but won't be the easiest of treks.
Part of the trail is on the Ozark Highlands Trail but then veers off to follow the creek to Accord Hollow Falls. AllTrails rates this hike as moderate for its bushwhacking.
The two-tiered waterfall will make you feel like you're deep in the jungle.
The mild bushwhack also aids in this jungle aesthetic. Accord Hollow Falls is over 65 feet tall and has two distinct tiers to create a jaw-dropping effect when you see it.
Even at a drizzle, it's still a serene place to visit.
Each season brings benefits to reaching the waterfall. The rainy, green seasons will ensure a full force waterfall but the hike is much easier in the leaf-off seasons. As long as you're prepared any season is a good time to visit!
You'll need to drive a bit, but there are a ton of other waterfalls in the area.
As long as it rained recently, you'll pass two other waterfalls before reaching Accord Hollow. If you follow the creek further past this fall you'll also run into South Accord Hollow Falls. One of the more impressive waterfalls in the vicinity that requires a short drive is the 4290 Falls. It's located, naturally, on County Road 4290.
The best part about this whole trip is how close you are to this famous eatery.
Whether you're coming from or going to the falls, the Oark General Store is a necessary stop if you're in the area. Carb load on the burgers before taking your hike or treat yourself to a slice of pie for a hike well done. Or do both!
Address: 117 County Road 5241, Oark, Arkansas 72852
