Canyon Lake is the smallest of the four lakes created by the Mormon Flat Dam.
The Salt River feeds into this beautiful reservoir. The lake itself is only 950 acres and was created in 1925.
Even though this is a small lake, there’s many things to see and do in this area.
And you’re only a short 45 miles from Phoenix! This is the perfect spot to cool off and enjoy a day in the water, especially during summer.
Sitting at an elevation of 1,900 feet, this lake boasts 28 miles of shoreline to enjoy.
The most popular activities are boating, jet skiing, and playing in the water. With temperatures like Arizona sees, the cool refreshing waters of Canyon Lake are welcome during a hot day!
You’ll find stunning desert wildflowers around, like the Spring Brittle bush blossoms.
You’ll also see plant life like the handsome Saguaro cactus. Go birding, or check out the wildlife like the Big Horn sheep, and even coyotes that like to pass through the area.
There’s plenty of sight seeing to do as well.
Check out the stunning mountains all around Canyon Lake, including one known as Four Peaks. Gorgeous red canyons rise up out of the water where there is great fishing to be had. In fact, a record-breaking 15-pound Largemouth Bass was taken from these very waters.
To get into this beautiful area you’ll need a Tonto National Forest Pass.
The daily car parking pass is $8. There are also motorized and non-motorized boating passes, camping passes, and a Discovery Pass for $80 that includes a single vehicle pass that’s good for all year long.
This beautiful lake is located along the historic State Route 88.
